SCP Tier List

Ranking the playable anomalies

This page ranks playable SCPs in SCP retroBreach for round impact in Containment Breach and related modes. Use it with the Tier List Hub, the weapons tier list, and the playable SCPs faction guide. Human counters live under MTF and Security and Foundation playbooks.

Tiers assume competent movement through LCZ, HCZ, and EZ, awareness of Gate B timings, and normal reinforcement waves from Chaos Insurgency, Serpent’s Hand, and GOC. Cosmetic TIX skins never change anomaly kits.

S tier — round warpers

SCP-106

SCP-106 remains a top pick because facility geometry bends around him. Walking through many doors lets him skip keycard bottlenecks that stall Class-D and Security. Pocket-dimension pressure converts mid-health targets into delayed deaths after recent tuning that requires victims to sit at or below roughly half health after his hit before the teleport finishes. That nerf stops free deletes on fresh MTF, but it rewards hunting wounded players and cutting retreats in HCZ corridors.

Play SCP-106 by collapsing chokepoints near checkpoints, denying Gate B stacks, and forcing humans to waste magazines while allies such as SCP-173 hold eye contact lines. Avoid extraction blacklists that limit some abilities on the surface—finish kills inside the site when possible.

SCP-096

SCP-096 punishes curious peeks. Once a human sees the face, rage turns hallways into kill boxes. In dense LCZ traffic and HCZ crossroads, a single accidental glance can wipe a squad before Desert Eagle or FAMAS users reorient. MTF Eta-style SCRAM / NVG tools and careful corner clearing are mandatory counters; if humans forget optics discipline, SCP-096 farms freely.

Coordinate with SCP-966: invisibility and shy-guy rage create overlapping fear—players who stare at walls to avoid 096 still lose to silent melee from 966 unless NVGs stay charged.

A tier — hallway kings

SCP-173

SCP-173 is still lethal whenever blinks and camera discipline fail. Peanut shines in tight LCZ rooms and stairwells where teams cannot maintain constant vision. Solo runners die first; organized MTF that assign a watcher can kite 173 toward open EZ atriums. Pair with SCP-049 so infected pressure forces humans to look away at the worst moment.

SCP-049

The Doctor converts fights into snowballs. Successful infections create extra threats that eat ammo and attention while you advance. Biological immunities on some specialist roles reduce free zombies, so prioritize soft targets—Class-D, distracted Security, and lone Foundation staff—before diving a full MTF stack. SCP-049 thrives when Chaos Insurgency and Serpent’s Hand split human focus across Gate B.

B tier — strong with caveats

SCP-457

SCP-457 burns zones with raycast flame instead of cheating through walls after Sandbox Engine adjustments. Range and damage buffs make open rooms scary, yet doors and solid geometry block free damage. MTF Epsilon-9 takes reduced burn, so fire anomaly players should hunt Class-D and standard Security first, then rotate before anti-fire specialists arrive.

SCP-966

SCP-966 owns dark corners and ambush angles, but NVG drain rules punish prolonged stares and give prepared MTF a roadmap. Without optics, humans panic; with optics, 966 becomes a timing puzzle. Use him to guard SCP-914 approaches and keycard rooms rather than charging Gate B alone.

C tier / situational notes

Object-class pickups and niche anomalies can still swing tickets when carried to exits, but they are not the same as full playable kits. If a round gives you a weaker anomaly spawn, play support: block cameras for SCP-173, flush wounded targets into SCP-106 range, and deny armory looting so humans never climb the weapons ladder.

How humans climb out of a bad SCP round

  1. Grab keycards and regroup before hunting S-tier anomalies.
  2. Assign watchers for SCP-173; never all look at loot.
  3. Save NVG battery for confirmed SCP-096 / SCP-966 contact.
  4. Keep wounded players away from SCP-106 melee range.
  5. Use Saiga-12 / HK416 volume fire from the weapons tier list to peel infections.

Serpent’s Hand may align with anomalies on some spawns, while GOC arrives to neutralize everything—read the Factions Hub so you know who is actually on your side.

Practice plan

Spend a session only as SCP-106 learning immaterial routes from HCZ to EZ. Next session main SCP-096 and track how often deaths come from SCRAM users versus raw aim. Then play Security to feel the counter side. Rotate through Chaos Insurgency escorts so you understand how Class-D escapes change when S-tier SCPs camp Gate B.

Combine this ranking with map timing: LCZ decontamination punishes late looters, so anomalies that stall humans in Light Containment steal more rounds than flashy surface chases. When in doubt, cut the keycard economy and let panic do the rest.

Return to the Tier List Hub after patches, and cross-check gun power so you know which human loadouts actually threaten your anomaly.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for SCP retroBreach players.

Who is the strongest playable SCP right now?

SCP-106 and SCP-096 sit in S tier for most Containment Breach lobbies because of door bypass / pocket pressure and rage deletes, assuming equal player skill.

How do I counter SCP-173?

Keep continuous vision with a dedicated watcher, fight in open EZ spaces, and never loot while the whole squad faces the same direction.

Does SCP-457 still burn through walls?

No. Raycasting stops through-wall burns; use cover, close doors, and bring Epsilon-9 style reduced-burn roles when available.

Why is SCP-966 only B tier?

Invisibility is strong, but NVG and SCRAM tools reveal or punish it, so prepared MTF stacks shrink its solo carry potential.

Should SCPs care about keycards?

Anomalies often bypass locks, but denying humans keycard upgrades still wins rounds—camp SCP-914 and armory routes.

Where do Serpent's Hand and GOC fit?

Serpent's Hand can support anomaly goals on some spawns; GOC hunts SCPs and humans alike—treat GOC as a third threat, not free backup.
