SCP retroBreach Escape Routes (Gate B)

Class-D breakouts versus Foundation holds — same Gate B, opposite jobs.

SCP retroBreach Escape Routes

Escape is a route, not a button

In SCP retroBreach, “escape” means surviving the facility spine — LCZ to HCZ to Entrance Zone — then clearing a gate elevator and reaching Surface extraction. Gate B is the path most players learn first: it is tied to Entrance Zone traffic, a nearby Tesla, MTF-side reinforcement fantasy, and the extraction room that converts a living Class-D into late-round pressure.

This guide compares Class-D breakout routes with Foundation containment routes around the same Gate B geography. Read facility zones first if you still confuse LCZ and EZ landmarks. Return to the map hub when you need the short version.

Shared Gate B checklist

Regardless of team, Gate B success usually needs:

  1. Clearance — gate access sits at high keycard tier in the classic loop (think Level 4 style requirements).
  2. Checkpoint discipline — LCZ–HCZ and HCZ–EZ doors close on timers; do not strand teammates mid-door.
  3. Tesla awareness — the Gate B approach punishes players who stare at chat instead of the floor markers and audio cues.
  4. Elevator patience — the ride to Surface takes real time; fighting in the cabin is a coin flip.
  5. Extraction identity — only eligible escape roles convert in the extraction room; wandering into it as the wrong class wastes the push.

Beta patches can tweak spawn waves and pickup UI, but they have not removed the Gate B fantasy. Console players should practise the hover-and-confirm pickup flow from the Christmas update so a dropped Level 4 card is not left on the floor during a chase — see console controls.

Class-D escape route (breakout)

Phase 1 — Leave LCZ alive

Class-D spawn in cells with nothing valuable. Your first minute is inventory, not heroics:

  • Loot adjacent rooms for any card and a weapon.
  • Decide whether SCP-914 is open. If two squads are already duelling there, take a side path and upgrade later.
  • Upgrade just enough to open the LCZ–HCZ checkpoint. Over-refining while SCP-173 sits outside the gate is how runs end.

In Class-D Riot, you start with a pistol, grenades, and bandages. Use that early aggression to seize 914 before security floods the wing, then transition to the same checkpoint plan. In Containment Breach, treat every corner as a possible anomaly. In Council Rescue, you are usually not the O5 — if you are Class-D adjacent pressure, do not steal the council’s escape tempo unless the mode rules make you the runner.

Phase 2 — HCZ transit

Move as a pair or trio when possible. One player watches rear angles while another holds the card for HCZ–EZ. Avoid long invent pauses in open trisections. If an SCP claims the hallway, break line of sight and re-route rather than emptying a pistol mag into a regenerating threat.

Meds are for EZ and Surface, not for ego duels in HCZ.

Phase 3 — Entrance Zone to Gate B

EZ is where Foundation players are strongest. Class-D should:

  • Avoid fair peeks against rifles if you only have a pistol.
  • Use sound to time Tesla crossings.
  • Open Gate B only when the squad can enter together — a solo elevator ride is free food for a waiting SCP or Guard.
  • On Surface, commit to extraction immediately. Sightseeing the roadway gets you farmed by reinforcements.

Successful Class-D escapes often convert into Chaos Insurgency or allied reinforcement roles, flipping you from prey to hunter. That conversion is why Gate B is worth the risk.

Class-D failure patterns

  • Camping 914 until decontamination or a flamer arrives.
  • Opening checkpoints for enemies behind you.
  • Arriving at Gate B with no meds and half a magazine.
  • Extracting one player while the card carrier dies in EZ with the only Level 4.

Foundation route (contain and deny)

Foundation players — Guards, MTF, and late reinforcements — win by denying the same path Class-D wants.

Early Foundation plan

  • Hold or delay HCZ–EZ if Class-D are still weak.
  • Send one flexible player to check 914 noise without throwing the whole team into LCZ alone.
  • Save Gate B control for when escapes are actually approaching; over-holding Surface while LCZ burns can lose the round’s tempo.

In Containment Breach, you are also managing SCPs. Sometimes the correct “escape denial” is letting an SCP delete a stacked Class-D push while you reposition. In Class-D Riot, there may be no SCP help — you must rush LCZ early or accept that upgraded prisoners will reach EZ with real guns. In Council Rescue, Gate B is often your delayed entry point; pathing quickly from Surface into the facility matters more than perfect cosmetics.

Gate B hold specifics

  • Watch the Tesla approach; force runners to cross while you have angle advantage.
  • Deny elevator free rides — a nade or coordinated spray as doors open beats chasing onto Surface late.
  • If escapees already ride up, rotate to Surface extraction rather than camping an empty gate.
  • Communicate card theft: a dead Class-D with Level 4 on the floor can hand the next prisoner a free gate.

Foundation failure patterns

  • Entire team sightseeing LCZ while Gate B is naked.
  • Ignoring Riot early rush timing.
  • Tunnel vision on one SCP while three Class-D walk the opposite checkpoint.
  • Arriving to Council Rescue so late that O5 are already dead in LCZ.

Mode-specific Gate B notes

ModeClass-D / escape focusFoundation focus
Containment BreachStealth + 914 + SCP avoidanceSplit SCP hunt and gate denial
Class-D RiotEarly armed breakoutImmediate LCZ suppress
Council RescueProtect or path around O5 tempoFast Gate B entry, then LCZ rescue

Third spawn waves added for Containment Breach and Council Rescue in the Christmas patch mean late reinforcements can re-contest Gate B after you thought the map was quiet. Do not assume a dead lobby stays dead.

Practice drills

  1. As Class-D, run a silent LCZ → HCZ → EZ → Gate B → extract with minimal fights.
  2. As Guard, practise holding Tesla + gate without pushing past EZ.
  3. As MTF on a late wave, time the elevator descent and clear toward HCZ without getting lost.
  4. On console, repeat card swaps with the new prompt UI until it is muscle memory (console controls).
  5. After reading patch notes, re-test elevator and Tesla timing if gun or SCP balance changed nearby fights.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for SCP retroBreach players.

What is the standard Class-D escape path?

LCZ loot and optional SCP-914, LCZ–HCZ checkpoint, HCZ transit, HCZ–EZ checkpoint, Gate B elevator, then Surface extraction. Details differ by mode pressure.

Do Foundation players escape through Gate B too?

Foundation roles usually deny escapes rather than extract as Class-D. They still use Gate B elevators for reinforcements and surface control. See the Foundation section above.

Why does Gate B matter more than random side rooms?

Gate B ties Entrance Zone, Tesla risk, Surface elevators, and extraction conversion together. It is the clearest win path for many Class-D rounds.

How does Class-D Riot change escape routes?

You start armed and must beat security to 914 and the checkpoints before a suppress rush ends the breakout. The Gate B endgame is similar, but the LCZ opener is a fight.

Where should I learn zone landmarks first?

Read facility zones for LCZ, HCZ, and EZ, then return here for Gate B timing and team jobs.
