Controls decide close rounds

SCP retroBreach plays like a Roblox FPS wrapped around SCP: Containment Breach habits: look, move, shoot, interact with doors and items, manage inventory, and trigger SCP abilities when you roll an anomaly. Sandbox Engine’s beta build already supports PC and, since the January 2026 console support update, gamepad play with prompt-friendly pickups.

This hub summarises what every player should internalise before memorising every anomaly. Deep pages cover PC controls and console controls. Pair either with the map hub so you are not learning Gate B and keybinds in the same panicked minute.

What every platform shares

Regardless of device, the loop is the same:

  • Move and aim through LCZ, HCZ, and Entrance Zone under fire or chase pressure.
  • Interact to open keycard doors, pick up guns and cards, and use world objects.
  • Inventory / hotbar management so the Level 4 card is not buried under junk when Gate B appears.
  • Sprint to break line of sight or cross Tesla approaches.
  • Fire, reload, and utility for human roles; ability buttons for SCPs.

The Christmas patch added SCP:CB-style pickup UI: hover the item you want, then confirm with interact or the on-screen prompt. That change exists specifically so console and touch players can swap gear without fighting awkward defaults.

PC at a glance

Typical PC expectations in this genre (confirm in your live settings — beta binds can move):

  • E — interact / pickup confirm
  • Shift — sprint
  • Tab — inventory
  • WASD + mouse — move and look
  • LMB / RMB — fire / alternate aim or ability contexts
  • Number keys / scroll — weapon and item slots
  • Reload and crouch — standard shooter keys, verify in menu

SCP roles add ability keys that differ by anomaly. Never assume the Class-D bind set matches SCP-173 or SCP-457. Full notes live on the PC controls page, including the reminder that beta patches may reshuffle binds without a long patch essay.

Console at a glance

Official console support landed with the early January 2026 update wave after the Christmas relaunch content. Expect:

  • Gamepad move/look sticks and shoulder buttons for fire and aim contexts
  • On-screen prompts for doors and item pickups
  • Harder inventory discipline because menus are slower than Tab-on-keyboard
  • The same facility rules — bad binds do not forgive a missed HCZ checkpoint

Read console controls for the support timeline, practical tips, and how lobby device indicators help you know who is on pad.

Mode-specific control pressure

Containment Breach mixes gunfights with SCP ability timing. Practise swapping from loot interact to sprint without opening the wrong menu.

Class-D Riot is an early gunfight — reload and grenade muscle memory matter more than stealth interact pacing.

Council Rescue punishes slow card confirms when O5 must open high-clearance doors under SCP pressure. Console players should rehearse prompt confirms in the lobby when possible.

Settings hygiene for beta

  1. Open the in-experience settings every major patch and screenshot your binds.
  2. Re-test interact after UI patches — Christmas already changed pickup confirmation.
  3. Lower look sensitivity until Gate B Tesla approaches feel readable.
  4. If you use mobile touch (when available in a server), remember semi-auto weapons can hold-to-fire on mobile per patch notes — that is not the same as PC tap fire.
  5. After reading patch notes, check whether SCP attack buttons or walkspeed bugs were mentioned; those are control-adjacent even when the key label stayed the same.

Good controls will not clear HCZ for you, but bad controls will lose an otherwise perfect Gate B run in SCP retroBreach.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for SCP retroBreach players.

What is the default interact key on PC?

Players commonly use E to interact and confirm pickups. Always verify in your settings because SCP retroBreach is in beta and binds can change.

Does SCP retroBreach support consoles?

Yes. Console support was added in the early January 2026 update wave. See console controls for details.

Why did item pickup UI change?

The Christmas patch added hover-and-confirm pickups closer to SCP:CB so doors and items work better across PC, console, and other devices.

Are SCP ability keys the same as human keys?

No. Anomaly roles add ability inputs on top of movement. Check PC controls and test in a live round when you spawn as an SCP.

Where should new players go after learning binds?

Open the map hub and practise LCZ to Gate B while the inputs are still fresh.
